For those who enjoy writing—whether fiction or nonfiction, journaling or note writing—putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) can be a powerful tool for strengthening your connection with God.
Our connection with God sometimes seems so fragile, and it’s up to us to keep placing ourselves at His feet, keep talking to Him in prayer, and keep ourselves open to the movement of His Holy Spirit. Elizabeth Cottrell is back to lead our Writing Retreat. She will explore various ways to write through all the facets of our relationship with God: adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication. Retreat content will include work on self-confidence, actual writings skills, and broadening our ideas about how writing might serve God and strengthen that most important relationship.
Elizabeth H. Cottrell, our retreat leader, is a freelance writer and blogger whose articles have appeared in both online and print publications. Her devotional—Stepping Stones to God: A Roadmap for Travelers on Life’s Broken Road—is scheduled for publication this year, and her blog, Heartspoken.com, has hundreds of followers. A “cradle Episcopalian,” and a scientist by education and training, Elizabeth later discovered the joys of writing, and she uses it to encourage and help others strengthen life’s essential connections.
