Let’s upgrade Valentine’s Day to Generosity Day!

February 10, 2012 by Elizabeth H. Cottrell

Thank you to Beth Kanter, nonprofit technology influencer, for her great blog post, “How Generosity Day is Building Momentum.” It tells how this viral movement got started  .

I’m definitely joining the movement to reboot Valentine’s Day to something more than chocolates and flowers, and I hope you will too. Let’s make it about love, connection, and giving back. Let’s turn it into Generosity Day! While the link under this one minute video is out of date, the message is timeless:

In case you’re new to this blog, you might enjoy my reflections on Valentine’s Day last year. It includes a bit of history about the holiday. Do you like the idea of upgrading Valentine’s Day? I’d love to hear your comments below, or join the conversation at my Facebook Page.

Nice video. Surely Valentine’s day has been so commercialized and I think that this is a great idea. Let’s make everyday a generosity day perhaps! 🙂

Thanks, Angel. You’re right…every day SHOULD be a day to be generous.

I know, every year, after the hype of New Year’s Day, will come the V-Day advertisements and flyers and commercial push for people to buy buy buy glittery baubles, expensive hunks of paper to put in envelopes, and what not. I love the idea of generosity day!

Hard to complain about consumerism in this economy, but I agree 100%, Karen.
