This almost became a Christian blog
Until I recently established an editorial schedule of writing about each of the four essential life connections regularly, I found myself gravitating towards writing about my spiritual journey more often than any other topic. Blog gurus suggest the more clearly you define your niche, the more successful you will be, so I was tempted to turn this into a Christian blog with its primary focus on sharing what I was learning about strengthening our connection with God (and God made manifest in Christ). That would have been easier and simpler.
But life isn’t that easy or simple.
I can’t separate the essential connections
As I considered dropping the other three themes of this blog—connection with self, connection with nature, and connection with others—I realized how inextricably bound they were to my connection with God in my own life. I speak to others everywhere I go about the power of connection in their lives, and I believe this is true for most of them too.
When I work on understanding myself by digging deeply into my own heart and soul—exploring my gifts, my weaknesses, my hopes, my dreams—there I find God—Source if you will—at the center of my truest self.
When I go outside and bask in the spectacular beauty of the natural world around me, enjoy and admire my feathered friends, observe the blooming and unfolding of flowers, shrubs, and trees, there I find God as its Source and Creator.
When I interact with others—family, friends, business associates, online acquaintances—I feel such a strong connection, not just because I’m a “people person” but because the sacred spirit inside me recognizes and greets the sacred spirit inside them.
Each connection is a thread making up the web of life
I find I cannot pull out one thread without unraveling others, so I rededicate myself to my original intent and mission: to seek ways to strengthen life’s essential connections: with God, with self, with others, and with nature. My talented friend and graphic designer Lynne Crumpacker has revised my blog banner to incorporate those words into my tagline: “Heartspoken: Speaking from the heart about life’s essential connections.” If it’s not already showing, it will be soon.
This versus and chorus from a song called “Weave” by Rosemary Crow beautifully convey the image of our interconnectedness:
We are many textures, we are many colors
Each one different from the other
But we are entwined with one another
In one great tapestry…

Beautifully written, Elizabeth. God’s voice speaks in all things, people, flowers, birds, His beautiful blue sky. And making meaningful connections with people (face to face or along the internet lines) is one of my favorite things.
