Whether it’s the work of a gardener, a housecleaner, or a painter, the quality workmanship and skills of others can immeasurably enrich our lives.

Doing our best work matters.
We go through life mostly oblivious to the impressions we are making along the way. The feelings we are creating for others, as we go about our daily business, is rarely in our consciousness. Yet the words we speak or the actions we take can create a moment of joy or have a lasting effect on someone who observes them or receives them. It can all happen without our even realizing it.
That’s what today’s story is about. I hope it will remind you of the times that you experienced joy – or sadness – without the person involved even being aware. It explains the wisdom of my Nanny’s oft repeated message to her young granddaughter: “Do your best in everything, so that someone who sees you or hears you will be glad, and God will be proud.”
