Take just a moment to stop and listen—to really appreciate the miracle of hearing. It can change the trajectory of your whole day.
My mother’s sister is 96 years old and has been deaf all her life. She has compensated well by cultivating all her other senses, but thinking about her has made me realize the challenges she has faced and appreciate my ability to hear.
If you are fortunate enough to be able to hear, take a moment to stop and listen. What do you hear? Think about the significance of each sound.
- A chain saw might be annoying.
- A waterfall might be soothing.
- A siren might mean danger.
- A tune might evoke a memory.
Every sound carries distinct auditory information, and the anatomy and physiology to make that happen is nothing short of a miracle.
Take a moment to appreciate it.
