My niece is graduating from college this month, and she plans to spend a good part of the next year writing screenplays. To acknowledge her as a writer, I decided to give her a fountain pen as a graduation gift. With help from my son, who is quite the fountain pen aficionado, I selected the Lamy 2000 fountain pen. It has a classic Bauhaus design, a piston filler, and a 14k gold nib. Interesting fact: it has a permanent place in the collection at the MOMA! It’s hard to find anything of this caliber for less than $200, so this was by far the best value for well under $150 (May, 2016).
They are reported to run a little broad, even for Western pens, so my son recommended going with a fine nib.
Have you got a budding writer in your life? The Lamy 2000 fountain pen would make a beautiful gift. I also ordered her a bottle of Waterman Serenity Blue ink. It’s a lovely shade and quite distinctive, even for blue.
