Every day holds the potential for amazing opportunity, growth, and accomplishment. My guest today, Connection Messenger* Annette Petrick, challenges us to use our next 24 hours to be all we can possibly be. I am reminded of the wonderful last lines from Mary Oliver’s poem The Summer Day:
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?
Use the audio player below to listen to this 90-second show.
When you woke up this morning, you were given another precious chance to be the person you can be. How lucky can you get!
The next 24 hours are YOURS to do with as you wish. Think about what a fantastic opportunity that is. You can make people happy during those hours. You can do something that will make the world a better place.
You could find a cure…write a song…give a speech…or kiss a cheek and remind someone how much you love them.
You could take a stand, in a world where far too few people speak out for what’s right and honorable, with no thought of personal glory or benefit.
You could plant a tree that grows to be 50 feet tall or give a hand to someone who would otherwise have a bad day. You could give a life lesson to a child—some snippet of wisdom or a story that sticks. Something that he can turn to, when it’s time to make a hard decision. Something that will guide her through anguish to the other side.
What an awesome gift this is. It’s once in a lifetime. The next 24 hours will never come again. This is your one and only chance to make them count.
The day is yours. You can make it shimmer. You can make this day really special for one person, or more. Today, make something good happen.

I read this blog yesterday morning and then thought about it throughout my day. I made a few people laugh. I commented on the beautiful day (numerous times). I tap danced! I wrote and posted a review for a friend. I relaxed and read. Not a bad 24 hours.

I love that you too ACTION, Karen! How often I read something inspiring and then let it disappear from my radar screen. That’s one reason I love blogging — after I’ve posted something (mine or someone else’s), I am reminded of it whenever someone comments, and I’m inspired again by their reaction. Thanks so much!

We all should wake up with that attitude – how lucky to have another day to have a precious chance of being/doing something. I try to think that way; for some reason, it’s not always easy. Thanks for the reminder! Now, I’m going to make my 6-year-old grandson some breakfast and give him some words of wisdom. 🙂

You’re right, Pam, it’s not always easy. That’s exactly why I’m glad to be reminded. Annette’s messages often inspire me to be better and do better than I might otherwise.
