RADIANT: How to Have All the Energy You Need to Live a Life You Love
By Iris van Ooyen
This book was an exciting surprise. I was interested in what the author had to say about self-care and personal energy management, but since I didn’t think I was her target audience, I wasn’t expecting to be so impressed. I would not hesitate to recommend the book to anyone who wants to learn how to do a better job of self-care and managing their energy level in different environments.
I know I am not alone in my desire to “work smarter, not harder.” To me, this means understanding what conditions, mindset, or personal training will help me make the best use of whatever time I have to make a difference in this world. The author of Radiant is writing from her experience as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) to help other HSPs. Even though I don’t have all of those sensitivities, her insights and extremely helpful solutions addressed many feelings and circumstances we have all experienced. I will be re-reading it to implement them right away.
Practical and Implementable tools and resources
Using a few of her tools, suggestions, and worksheets, for instance, you can begin to more fully identify which activities and relationships bring you joy and vitality and which ones drain you mentally and physically. Her simple grounding meditation is excellent and fast. The last few chapters of the book—on seasonal changes, perfectionism, working from home, and gratitude—were each worth the price of the book to me. She generously includes links to many of her tools and resources. Even the self-care insights I had heard before were presented with fresh energy, perspective, and compassion. Iris van Ooyen has lived this journey and is sharing what she learned.

Your eloquence speaks for me as well, Elizabeth. I think I have a tiny bit of HSP in me yet consider myself high pragmatic, which I also get from Iris’ book. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
